A band of attached scales twists and bends into a model of a non-orientable surface. The pattern on the scales is a segment from a triangle-based surface-tiling curve intended for regular deltahedra.

Torching the painted surface allows a small amount of oxidation and is intended to hint at possibly extraterrestrial origins.

Three different views of the same sculpture show how different it can look from varying angles. A bright light such as the sun makes the knocked out lines appear to have no support, although if they really were unbroken lines, the piece would have a hard time holding itself together.

All the scales are identical. Every other one is flipped which works out nicely with the twist and bend necessary to construct a band.
