Similar to triangle-based surface-tiling curve segment intersection, this piece uses surface-tiling curves as boundaries between areas of color.
The curve (section) used here is designed for use on deltahedra (polyhedrons made up of triangles). It represents the 4th iteration in a series which makes the perimeter of a boundary approach an infinite length as the iterations approach infinity. Due to the self-similar nature of these curves, the artwork could just as well be showing the 4-zillionth iteration very close up.
One segment is angular and the other is a “splined” version of the same, meaning the angles are the same, but have smoother bends.
